Should Wisconsin allow all hunters to use crossbows
during the archery deer season?

Crossbows are legal for all hunters during the archery season in 17 states.

In Wisconsin, only hunters 65 and older and physically disabled hunters may use them.

dukboxDuck box: Tips ‘n WARNING!

This is the time of year to clean out your wood duck nest boxes. When you clean them out, be sure to take along some fresh cedar shavings to replace the nesting material and some metal hardware cloth or gutter guard to repair or replace any damaged ladders, which help the ducklings climb out of the boxes.

Jerry Solsrud, founder of the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association, reports that when he serviced his wood duck boxes last week, he found some of the chicks that had hatched lying dead in the bottom of the boxes. The climbing ladders had come down and the chicks were unable to climb out of the boxes. The only houses this occurred in were those with the WWA logo on them. These boxes had plastic window screening for ladders. Although these boxes are just a few years old, the plastic must deteriorate in time, become detached from the staples and simply fall down. Solsrud replaced all the plastic screen ladders with aluminum gutter guard.
